September 8-13, 2009 COGNAChris Barnett will attend the Annual Conference of the Council of Geographic Names Authorities (COGNA) in Charleston, SC, September 8-13, 2009. Chris will represent Missouri Board of Geographic Names at the conference.

September 2-3, 2009 A joint meeting of three Midwest Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Units (CESU) will be held with the theme of discussing the role of the CESUs in addressing research, technical assistance, and educational needs and opportunities for Midwest Rivers. The three CESUs at the joint meeting include Great Lakes/Northern Forest, Great Plains, and Great Rivers. The meeting will be held in Dubuque, Iowa, on September 2-3, 2009.

Tony Prato, Chris Barnett and Angie Stewart of CARES will attend the meeting. University of Missouri is the host institution for the Great Rivers CESU. CARES provides administrative support to the unit.

August 26-28, 2009 CIM homeThe collaborative summer convening for Community Issues Management (CIM) initiative will be held in Washington D.C. on August 26-28, 2009. Chris Fulcher, Erin Barbaro and Mike Barbaro will attend the convening.

The convening is co-hosted by CARES, Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) and Trident United Way. It will bring together CIM Advisory Board members and collaborative members to explore new emerging uses of CIM and agree on future CIM priorities.

April 6, 2009 Dr. Tony Prato's Retirement Reception will be held 3 - 5 pm, Monday, April 6, 2009 at Reynolds Alumni Center, Columns D and E, University of Missouri.

Tony is the founder of CARES, and has been its director or co-director since 1992. He will offically retire on September 1, 2009.

March 17, 2009 CARES has developed a Watershed Evaluation and Comparison Tool for watershed-based data visualization and assessment. The tool generates reports for a number of factors related to watershed condition, presenting the information in tables, charts and interactiver maps.

A basic watershed profile can be generated for a single watershed, or for multiple watersheds for comparison purposes. An indicator report (for nutrient management) provides a special topic-based report. Watershed reference maps are also available with each report, or separately under the printable maps section.

This project was funded in part by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

March 4, 2009 Tony Prato will be presenting on "Assessing and managing ecosystem impacts of climate change: A conceptual framework" at the Lunch and Learn seminar in the Department of Agricultural Economics, University of Missouri. The seminar will be held at 12:00 PM in 217 Mumford Hall.

February 16-18, 2009 Bryan Mayhan and James Cutts, III will present a poster on "The Missouri Terrace Project: An Integrated Automated Web-Based GIS Approach to Conservation Terrace Layout" at the 2009 Missouri GIS Conference in Tan-Tar-A Resort, Osage Beach, Missouri. They will be discussing the data flow and basic GIS calculations that take place in the Missouri Terrace Project.

February 4-6, 2009 Tony Prato will be presenting on the topic "Conceptual framework for evaluating and managing wildlife impacts of climate change under uncertainty" at the 2009 Missouri Natural Resources Conference in February.
