Title: Soil Map Digitization Project
Project Description: Identifying, documenting, mapping and organizing soils system
information for publication as the official soils data and information for Missouri.
CARES provides significant contributions to tasks through its centralized web-based
delivery and extensive GIS expertise. CARES, through MOPED, continues to house and
deliver data analyzed at the Missouri Soil Characterization Laboratory through its
web-based map services and databases.
During Phase XIII and continuing into Phase XIV, CARES, in conjunction with the
Soil and Water Program, developed and implemented Phase I of the Conservation Management
Toolbox. The CMT began testing in July 2009, and additions to Phase I requirements
continued into December. The Phase I release was February 2009, in conjunction with
the spring cost-share season. Also during this time period, an online soils tutorial
was developed and made accessible to the public. The intent of this tutorial is
to enhance the general public’s knowledge and appreciation for Missouri’s invaluable
soil resources.
