Chris Barnett serves as Assistant Director of the Center for Applied Research and Environmental Systems (CARES) at the University of Missouri. Chris has been with CARES since 1992, and has worked extensively with geographic information systems (GIS). His early work combining GIS and Internet technologies contributed to the development of the CARES Map Room and a variety of web-based information and assessment tools, including the Missouri Clipper, an agricultural management data resource, and the Missouri Comprehensive Community Needs Assessment website. Chris’ current interests continue focus on the practical application of data and tools in an internet environment. Chris, a native of Missouri, received his B.A. in Geography in 1990 and M.A. in Geography in 1992, both at the University of Missouri. He is also vice-chair of the Missouri Board on Geographic Names.
